A Bright Light in the Middle of the Ocean - Review

For as long as I can remember I've been drawn to lighthouses. Not obsessively, otherwise I'd have found my way inside of one by now. But enough that it's served as a symbol of peace and solitude and respite when I've needed it. For years there has been a lighthouse inside of me that I can go to, I envisioned it once many years ago and I visit it from time to time as if it were a physical space. A man I loved wanted to buy me a lighthouse lamp for my birthday once, but it never came to be. A man whose light no longer shines except for in the minds of those who knew him. I would do anything now to share some time with him in a lighthouse of our own. And since he left us, my lighthouse has remained quite neglected as I've searched for refuge in many other places, namely in people rather than imaginary spaces. But I came across this game again, and remembered I had played it years ago, and it got me thinking again about my fondness. I decided I'd like to write not only about this game, but about lighthouses in general, above all in media, and think about the reasons I find myself drawn to them. To me, they are magnetic, omnipotent structures, symbols of hope and home, calm yet powerful beings that sit outside of space and time. -The Lighthouse (film) -The Long Dark (game) https://thelongdark.fandom.com/wiki/Lonely_Lighthouse -Joe Pera episode -Happisburgh lighthouse
